Thoughts & Review- Adventure Time: Escape From the Citadel

I only got into Adventure Time about 2 years ago, but once I discovered the show, I was hooked. The first 100 episodes flew by and a few months later, I was fully caught up. Since then, I’ve tried to make it my weekly ritual to watch the show every Monday and this season’s opener was an emotional one. If you haven’t caught up yet, you might want to stop here. SPOILER ALERT AHEAD!!

Days after watching the Escape from the Citadel episode, I am still thinking about it.

In typical Adventure Time fashion, Finn meeting his dad was a serious topic made into a casual moment – no big deal, right? And even though we hoped for the best, we were slowly disappointed to find Finn’s dad was just another deadbeat dad. But like any kid who just discovered his dad was alive, Finn tries to hold on so tightly, even when it’s obvious his dad wants to leave. And then it happens. That moment you knew was eventually coming and was foreshadowed so many times in previous episodes and alternate universes – Finn loses his arm. We finally experienced it and it was incredibly heart breaking. I teared up both times I watched the episode and was just as shocked both times. Of course, those tears quickly dried up when the giant Lich baby showed up, but then my mind wandered back to the scene where the flower grew out of what was left of Finn’s arm. :( So today’s post is just a small dedication to one of my favorite cartoons ever, Adventure Time. A cartoon that I always say is easily entertaining for kids, but can be very deep and meaningful to an adult watcher.
