Everyday Cosplay: Robin

Everyday Cosplay - RobinYou may have been hearing a lot of buzz around “everyday cosplay” and “Disney bounding” lately and wondered what that was. To explain, this is basically a casual take on cosplay where your outfit isn’t a full on costume, but something inspired by that character in either the color scheme, style of clothing, or even a certain prop. Even clothing companies have jumped on this idea by printing what looks like a costume onto a shirt, hoodie, or maybe leggings. Remember those giant T-shirts that had hot bikini bodies printed on them back in the ’80s and ’90s? Well, you get the idea. And then there’s also “Disney bounding” where you are essentially dressing up like Disney characters, but not in full costume. For example, someone Disney bounding as Snow White would probably wear a blue blouse, yellow skirt, and a red headband with a bow. I mean, what better way to combine two of my favorite passions – geek fashion and cosplay?

I decided to try out this whole “everyday cosplay” thing today by taking the bustier I made for my Robin cosplay and creating an outfit around it. I chose this longer vest because it reminded me of a cape and I paired the top with some these ghetto fabulous leggings to add something fun. So what do you guys think of the “everyday cosplay” concept? Love it or hate it?

I wish you would open up an online store. You’re outfits are amazing and I would totally buy from. The funny thing is I don’t think anyone would ever consider meto be a geek but I just find your style to fit me so well!

Thanks so much! I actually plan on opening up a small Etsy store once I figure out what I want to sell there. Any ideas? The thing is that most of the pieces I wear can be purchased online through my links anyways!

Hi Emily! I love seeing the different cosplay and everyday outfits that you’ve come up with, too. I work with kids, so I’m always looking for work appropriate geek chic, if you will. I would love to see some of the cute designs I see places like We Love Fine on nice scoop-neck T’s or even on button down blouses, or something more like a pencil skirt. Something to move around in & be comfortable without scarring any small children for life :) I think so many of the outfits that you’ve created are a great celebration of the stories and characters you love, as well as being cute and classy. :)

Thank you! I’m really glad you are enjoying my outfits and find them useful. I think the “working” geeks have such limited selection with geeky wear, you know? Not like we can walk into a department store and find a huge selection. I think we will definitely see a rise in more work appropriate geek clothes (blouses, skirts, etc) especially as the new generation of geeks gets older!
