When it comes to buying stuff at cons, especially San Diego Comic-Con, it’s all about lots of swag, exclusives, and cool merch, right?? Wrong!! For someone who already has way too much stuff and is constantly trying to declutter (keyword being “trying”), shopping at cons is such a challenge for me. As a collector, I want everything! But on the other hand, I’m trying to only buy stuff I really really love (suggests Mari Kondo). Even though I am a victim of having way too many geeky shirts, I did happen to pick up a few good ones at SDCC this year – one of my favorites being this trash panda one reminiscent of Nirvana’s classic smiley face band shirt. It definitely screams ’90s to me and of course any excuse to go ’90s grunge is a good one to me.
SDCC is finally here and if you’ve been following me on Instagram, you can probably tell I’m super excited. These past few weeks have been a bit crazy, finishing my season 3 Sabine cosplay, reading all about upcoming Comic-Con exclusives, and of course planning what to see and what events I want to go to! With constant news being released, my plans are constantly changing! And of course, there’s the big question of “What am I going to wear??” In fact, I was thinking so much about this that I ended up going through my blog and looking at some of my older posts for inspiration! So if you’re stuck packing like I have been, here are some ideas – click on any of the photos to see the full post. Hope to see you guys at Comic-Con!!
It’s been a pretty hot summer, which has been the perfect excuse to make some new tank tops. I’ve been buying way too many Guardians of the Galaxy tees (because they all look SO cool) and instead of just cutting them all into sleeveless tanks, I’ve been trying to mix it up with some DIY. The graphic on this tee was totally album cover worthy so I wanted to add a bit of punk cutouts to the back. All it took was some scissors, careful cutting, and then cutting off enough of the shirt to have a front tie. And speaking of DIY, I even made the pants I’m wearing, which were super easy with this pattern! Read on to DIY your own geeky tee!
Happy 7th Birthday, Her Universe! I can’t believe it’s already been 7 years! To think that when I first started this blog 5 years ago, I only had a handful of women’s geeky shirts and now I could put together a full on head to toe ensembles of different fandoms! I mean, check out one of my earlier blog posts here, centered around a very basic fitted Star Wars tee, which I was soo excited for at the time because it was such a rare find! Looking back on these old blog posts, it’s amazing to see how far geek fashion has come and I can’t help but think Her Universe had a huge part in all this. Continue reading
We all know super hero movies can end up being hit or miss. And despite the great reviews that Wonder Woman was getting opening day, I was still hesitant to believe how good it could be. I knew I had to see it for myself. It not only met my expectations, but completely exceeded it. I think everyone walked out of the theater feeling like Gal Gadot was made to play Wonder Woman. She was the perfect combination of strength, intelligence, charm, and beauty. And given the state of the country these days, it’s the perfect time to have a movie like Wonder Woman to empower women and remind us of how strong we are.
Can we just take a quick second to talk about some of the awesome geek fashion that has been out lately? Take for example this Batmanga Souvenir Jacket. I admit I was a little unsure about how good the quality seeing as how a lot of con clothing can be a little bit on the cheap side, but I was completely reassured once I saw it in person. Not only was the embroidery fantastic, but the jacket itself (the fabric, the lining, the material) was everything I hoped for. Also, what about all the cool workout gear from Her Universe/Kohls? Christmas is just around the corner and I’ve been trying to enjoy every moment leading up to it. I’ve already watched Home Alone, had tons of peppermint flavored everything, put up my Christmas lights, my Christmas tree, finished my Christmas shopping, and have been listening to Christmas music all month long! And, I’ve even picked up some new Christmas sweaters! “Ugly” Christmas sweaters are all the craze these days and there’s nothing more festive than a good Christmas sweater, or better yet a geeky Christmas sweater! I not only love the design of this Batman sweater (Gotham city on your sleeves? YES!), but I was really impressed at the overall quality of the knit. There are a lot of cheap-o sweaters out there so I love that this is not itchy, soft, and doesn’t look 10 years old just after one wear! So, what are some of your favorite geeky Christmas sweaters? I would love to see!
