SDCC is finally here and if you’ve been following me on Instagram, you can probably tell I’m super excited. These past few weeks have been a bit crazy, finishing my season 3 Sabine cosplay, reading all about upcoming Comic-Con exclusives, and of course planning what to see and what events I want to go to! With constant news being released, my plans are constantly changing! And of course, there’s the big question of “What am I going to wear??” In fact, I was thinking so much about this that I ended up going through my blog and looking at some of my older posts for inspiration! So if you’re stuck packing like I have been, here are some ideas – click on any of the photos to see the full post. Hope to see you guys at Comic-Con!!
It’s been a pretty hot summer, which has been the perfect excuse to make some new tank tops. I’ve been buying way too many Guardians of the Galaxy tees (because they all look SO cool) and instead of just cutting them all into sleeveless tanks, I’ve been trying to mix it up with some DIY. The graphic on this tee was totally album cover worthy so I wanted to add a bit of punk cutouts to the back. All it took was some scissors, careful cutting, and then cutting off enough of the shirt to have a front tie. And speaking of DIY, I even made the pants I’m wearing, which were super easy with this pattern! Read on to DIY your own geeky tee!
Happy 7th Birthday, Her Universe! I can’t believe it’s already been 7 years! To think that when I first started this blog 5 years ago, I only had a handful of women’s geeky shirts and now I could put together a full on head to toe ensembles of different fandoms! I mean, check out one of my earlier blog posts here, centered around a very basic fitted Star Wars tee, which I was soo excited for at the time because it was such a rare find! Looking back on these old blog posts, it’s amazing to see how far geek fashion has come and I can’t help but think Her Universe had a huge part in all this. Continue reading
It’s not even Thanksgiving yet, but Black Friday deals have already started! While I love a good deal, I’m also trying the Marie Kondo idea where I only buy stuff I absolutely love. At the same time, I’m also trying not to feel guilty for all the stuff I already bought! Serious first world problems, I know. :) So with that, on to this year’s Black Friday deals! Try to contain yourself!
If you asked me who my idol was when I was 6 years old, the answer would have enthusiastically been “Mickey Mouse!!”. Back then, I easily obsessed over Mickey Mouse and the golden age of cartoons like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Pocahontas, and so on. It was definitely an amazing time to be a Disney fan and as an adult, I never thought I might become an even bigger fan of everything Disney. Disney has really grown the past couple of years, especially with the acquisition of Star Wars, and it’s no surprise that they’ve even collaborated with big brands like Uniqlo for a line of cool Disney gear. I absolutely love this shirt I’m wearing (bonus points because there’s an angry Mickey) and thought it was especially fitting today since it’s Mickey’s 88th birthday! Happy Birthday, Mickey, and thanks for bringing so much joy into my life!
Ever since I went pastel, I’ve found myself being a lot more conscious of the colors I’m wearing. Suddenly I’m not sure if I should be wearing red plaid shirts or a mustard yellow sweater! On the flip side, when I had red hair, I found myself never wearing pastel colors and wearing tons of black. And now it seems like I’m back to wearing light spring colors as well as lots of blacks and whites. It may be way past the season for wearing springtime pastels, but it looks like it’s going to be a colorful winter! I swear I wasn’t trying to match my hair today, but I’m loving this light purple/grey pleated skirt from Uniqlo (and it’s at a great price!) Also, I’m especially loving Uniqlo these days because of their awesome Disney line. I totally went crazy stocking up on their Disney tees so if you’re a Disney fan, be prepared!
It’s crazy to think that exactly one year ago, my world was turned upside-down when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It’s still hard to even type that out today – in fact, sometimes it seems like a lifetime ago that I was dealing with all that stress. I was in total disbelief, felt so overwhelmed, and had no idea how I was going to take this on. Well, as you can see, I made it out A-OK and learned a lot about myself – one of the biggest things being that I am much stronger than I realize. I think that’s one thing that a lot of survivors will tell you – that this disease F’ing sucks and going through it is no piece of cake, but in the end, you come out so much mentally stronger than you were before.
