Hopefully everyone got to pause for at least a few minutes for Monday’s eclipse because it was definitely a site to see! As a former astronomy nerd who used to keep posters of the solar system and star charts on my bedroom walls, this will definitely go down as a very memorable event. Even though California was only about 80% dark, it was still pretty awesome getting to witness this natural phenomenon of our universe. Seeing stuff like this definitely makes you appreciate the universe just a little bit more and makes you realize just how small we are, doesn’t it? In celebration of such an big event, I thought it was the perfect time to wear my galaxy print shirt, complete with this minty pastel circle skirt that I made (link to tutorial below). I am basically obsessed with anything printed with stars, moons, and the like so this shirt was right up my alley. Now we only have to wait another 28 years for the next full solar eclipse of 2045!!
When it comes to buying stuff at cons, especially San Diego Comic-Con, it’s all about lots of swag, exclusives, and cool merch, right?? Wrong!! For someone who already has way too much stuff and is constantly trying to declutter (keyword being “trying”), shopping at cons is such a challenge for me. As a collector, I want everything! But on the other hand, I’m trying to only buy stuff I really really love (suggests Mari Kondo). Even though I am a victim of having way too many geeky shirts, I did happen to pick up a few good ones at SDCC this year – one of my favorites being this trash panda one reminiscent of Nirvana’s classic smiley face band shirt. It definitely screams ’90s to me and of course any excuse to go ’90s grunge is a good one to me.
Hello! You may have noticed that it’s been a little quiet on the blog front, but I’m back! Believe it or not, I’ve had this blog for almost 5 years and this past month is probably the first time in 5 years that I’ve really taken a break from writing! In fact, I’m sort of taking a break from a lot of things this year to focus on myself and my marriage. I just got back from Hawaii a couple of weeks ago after some much needed R&R and have a couple more fun trips planned this year. Because of that, I won’t be going to as many cons as I typically do (not that I go that much), but it’s starting to look like my next con might just be SDCC! So what does that all mean?
I hit a small bump in the road last week feeling down about myself, but I’m making my way back, slowly but surely. For me, sometimes it just takes a few pretty colors to make me feel better. I’ve been in a colorful mood all week and today is no exception. Covered in pastel sequins and beads, this bomber jacket makes me feel like one of those sassy New York ladies from the ’80s. And with the ’90s slip dresses coming back in style, these two things make a perfect combo – just like my Han Solo and Princess Leia shoes from Irregular Choice! What was that you said? You love my shoes? Well… I know.
With sandal season over, I’ve sort of been on a sneaker buying binge lately. I can’t help it – they’re comfortable, cute, and did I mention affordable? Well, unless you’re buying ones like this $480 pair. :P Anyhow, I recently came across these Adidas kicks that gave me the warm fuzzies of not only the ’80s but a tiny bit of Marty’s shoes from Back to the Future 2. Seeing as how the replica pair is not going to be affordable any time soon, these are a pretty nice back up! Plus they were perfect to wear with my BTTF pins that I picked up from the BAIT booth at SDCC! I’ve been a Disney pin collector for about 3 years now and I love that pins are the latest craze these days. They’re an easy way to throw in your favorite fandom to your daily outfit, backpack, purse, and really anything!
