Every once in a while, the people in the Bay Area prepare their homes for something “big”. AC units and fans go out of stock, popsicles have record sales, and ramen restaurants become like a ghost town. Yup, I’m talking about a heat wave. You may think I’m joking, but 90-100 degree weather becomes pretty unbearable, especially since many older houses and apartments built in the Bay do not come with AC units! So when it comes to dressing for near 100 degree weather, it seems like the obvious shorts and tank top is a must. You would think that there’s not much you can do to get creative with shorts and a tank, but the key is in everything else that you wear! Statement necklaces, gladiator sandals, a hat, or even wearing a bikini top underneath are some fun ways to add to that basic look. What kind of tips do you have for dressing for hotter than hot weather?
Happy June! Coincidentally, my sister’s name is also June. I remember admiring my sister back in the ’90s when all her and her high school friends wore denim shorts with black tights underneath. They looked so cool. Unfortunately by the time I got to high school, it was an entirely different era. But like most trends, they can come back at any time! I loved these lace tights I found at Banana Republic Republic and although they are a bit racy, I thought the conservative top with the peter pan collar created a nice balance to the outfit.
So you’re going to a comic convention and don’t have a cosplay. What’s a girl to do? Grab your [insert comic, game, movie theme here] shirt, throw on some shorts, long socks, and a pair of converses and you have an outfit. That’s exactly what I did. This weekend was the Big Wow Comic Fest and I found myself with no time to make a cosplay. And instead of throwing on my typical Star Wars shirt, i decided to mix it up!
For someone so prone to dropping food on themselves, I should never wear any color that comes close to white. It’s true. Most of my shirts have some stain or another. That’s why my secret is to wear dark and patterned shirts! However when I saw this Joie “Eleanor” blouse, I knew I had to have it. But I also knew that any time I ate in this, I would have to wear 3-4 bibs to protect myself. :)
