Big Wow Comic Fest 2014 – Recap

Arkham City RobinAnother weekend, another con! I spent my entire weekend at Big Wow Comic Fest and already can’t wait to see what they have in store for next year. Heading over Saturday morning, I was shocked to find the number of people in line to check-in. I swear, the line was probably 10 times longer than it was last year, which just means it’s going to be even more insane next year! On top of that, the floor space had now doubled! But to my relief, panel rooms were large and roomy (no panel camping here!) and I got to attend some really awesome panels with cosplayers and artists that I admire.

The first couple of panels I attended were more about cosplay making – molding, casting, and construction around cosplay with Chris and Jinyo (from Heroes of Cosplay), Kit Quinn,ReevzFX, and SoloRoboto Industries. I also got to meet Holly Conrad (Crabcat Industries) who I have been following for years. I love how her cosplays are a little more dark and mysterious and she’s a great person to follow if you’re looking for ideas outside of the spandex wearing arena. Plus she is an amazing artist – if you love Dark Crystal like I do, follow her work on Instagram! Plus, check out her amazing fake tattoos below.

I also went to a few other cosplay panels featuring some of my favorite cosplayers such as Riddle, Monika Lee, Jessica Nigri, Scruffy Rebel.. just to name a few. On top of that,  Heroes of Cosplay had it’s very own panel and nearly the entire cast was there!

And even though Big Wow is known as a “small” con, it definitely packs a big punch. There’s no way I would have gotten to meet all of these cosplayers at any other con. I actually had time to chat with them and get excited about cosplay and geek out over stuff!

Of course, besides all of the cosplay, there was a huge vintage Monsters presence and even though I’m not an expert on that, I was so tempted to get one of their custom hoodies! I also went home with some new favorite prints from some of the artists that put together Battle Milk 3 and these cute cards by Tony Bui.

If you’ve never been to Big Wow before, this is definitely a con to keep an eye on! Can’t wait until next year!
