Let’s Jam!

Tee Fury Cowboy Bebop shirtIf you’ve ever watched Cowboy Bebop, then you were probably thinking what I was thinking when I saw this shirt. “3, 2, 1, LET’S JAM!” and then followed by Yoko Kanno’s popular theme song for Cowboy Bebop.  Although I don’t watch too much anime anymore, Cowboy Bebop still remains one of my all time favorites.  Tee Fury was kind enough to send me one of their shirts and I didn’t even have to think twice before requesting this one. And even though they do carry girl versions of the shirt designs, I actually opted for a men’s shirt so that I could do a little DIY and transform it into a muscle tank. Keep reading to see how I transformed this men’s tee into a cute tank!

Storming the Workplace

Stormtrooper all over print We Love Fine collared topIt’s rare that you find a top that’s not only geeky and fun, but that would also be appropriate for the work place (or heck, even an interview). Maybe an interview is taking it a little too far, but I wouldn’t completely put it out of the picture, especially in the Silicon Valley! We Love Fine is one of those geeky brands that has been gaining a lot of momentum and I love that this top is not just your typical T-shirt/tank top. The collar and fit makes it very wearable for the workplace plus the Stormtrooper print is subtle enough that someone would really have to pay close attention to even notice it. And not only is it for women, but there’s a men’s version too!

Cosplay Clothes

Dotted Collar Shirt and Stories Pleated Skirt

Apologies for the lack of posts these past few weeks, but I’ve been so heads down on cosplay these days that I’ve barely had time to think about clothes! Luckily I picked up some fun pieces while in Paris the other month, which make for some easy outfits. Maybe it’s just me, but when I work on certain pieces of cosplay, some of my clothes actually start reminding me of what I’m making. Take for example this pleated skirt (from my new favorite brand that I discovered while in Paris – & Other Stories) The way the skirt doesn’t just sit at the waist, but that it has pleats that extend above the waist line reminds me of this piece of hip armor that I’ve been making. Too much of a stretch? Maybe I just have too much cosplay on the mind…

Mermaid Out of Water

Little Mermaid Tank Top with Fluted SkirtI think at some point or another, all kids get obsessed with something – maybe dinosaurs, Hello Kitty, Legos, etc. My obsession was Mickey Mouse. Specifically, I had this one Mickey Mouse plush that I carried around everywhere – my “Linus blanket” if you will. It was dingy, missing a nose, and probably smelled of drool, but that plush was my constant companion for the beginning part of my childhood. I never thought my obsession over Mickey or even Disney stuff would carry on with me as an adult, but Disney is like crack. They get you early and you’re hooked. To this day, I am still just as obsessed – collecting Disney pins, going to the park (30 times last year, baby!), and geeking out over their newest apparel – especially this Little Mermaid tank top! Peter Pan syndrome? I dunno. What do you think?

Pixel Perfect

Junk Food Darth Vader Game Over Top Outfit

For anyone who grew up in the ’80s, there’s something completely irresistible about pixelated art. It’s fun, it’s nostalgic, and reminds me of simpler times on the Atari or for those who remember – the Intellivision, which is what I had growing up. One of my favorite super old school games was called Dracula – a classic pixelated game where you play Dracula and wander the streets in the middle of the night in search of food. Before you’re wondering how this violent idea could be a kids game, it gets even better. To “hunt” for food, you wander the Sesame Street like city, knocking on doors for people to come out. Apparently the people of this town have no problem answering their doors in the middle of the night because once they come out, you get to “bite” them and fuel up on their blood. But you have to hurry! Get back to your coffin before the sun comes up to avoid death!

Caught in a Web (of Cosplay)

Spider-Man Tank top and peplum skirt

Happy Friday! It’s been a long week and I’m so ready for some fun in the sun. Well, that is if I can drag myself away from cosplay making to get some sun! San Diego Comic Con is only 4 weeks away, which means crunch time for cosplay making. It’s definitely a challenge to stay motivated, not procrastinate, and not feel discouraged when you face difficulties. To anyone else out there working hard on their cosplays – best of luck and as I would say in Chinese, “jia you!”, which literally means “add oil”, but translates to something like “Let’s GO!”.

Late in the Game

Legend of Zelda Tank Top and Floral JeansSummer is officially here and with the hot weather, E3 announcements, and cravings for ice tea all the time, I wanted to officially welcome summer with this outfit. I may have grown up gaming like the rest of the kids in the ’80s, played Mario until I got blisters, and run on that Power Pad like there was no tomorrow, but somehow I completely missed playing The Legend of Zelda. Fast forward to last year when I was feeling nostalgic one weekend, found myself a copy of the game, and finally sat down and played through the whole thing on my original NES. Continue reading
