Today’s look takes me back to my visit to Japan in winter 2010. Shopping there was insanely crowded and I quickly noticed that girls there easily sacrificed warmth in the name of fashion. Even though I wore layers upon layers under my extremely puffy down North Face jacket, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw girls wearing floral mini skirts, tights, some faux leather boots, and fur hooded parkas, all in 30-40 degree weather. Even though I loved the look, I knew I would never be able to pull it off until I came back to good old “60 degree winter” in the Bay Area. I think I will always be inspired by Japanese fashion, but only if I get to stay warm!
I’ve been in a pretty casual wearing mood lately, which might have to do with the cold weather or being sick for two weeks. Either way, oversized sweaters seem to be my go-to piece these days. Paired with skinny jeans, a skirt, or even leggings, these “boyfriend” sweaters make a great comfortable and loose piece that you can throw on over virtually anything. Let’s just hope this “boyfriend” is a good one!
It may already be mid-November and on the verge of winter, but living in California, it’s just starting to feel like fall. And there’s nothing like a good sweater to kick off the drop in temperature. I’ve never been a fan of thick chunky sweaters and love that this one has a so cal surfer look and can be worn year round. This one may be a bit to “holey” to keep you truly warm in most places during the winter, but it will definitely do in California.
Sweatshirts to me have always been something super casual, something you wear when you’re at home, sick, or rushing to class. But these days, it’s so much more than that. Colored, patterned, or dressed up with a statement necklace, it can be a fun and versatile piece. This lace sweatshirt definitely brings new meaning to “casual Fridays”! Happy Friday, everyone!
The rise of geeky girl clothing has been amazing over the past ten years. What was once impossible to find your favorite TV show, movie, or video game on a girl sized shirt is now so easily available. Ashlie Eckstein saw potential in geeky girl clothing early on and spawned Her Universe, a sci-fi focused clothing brand for women. I remember my first Her Universe purchase clearly at SDCC many years ago. A cool looking Star Wars hoodie in my size?? I couldn’t believe my eyes! And to this day, that hoodie still remains one of my favorite Star Wars hoodies that I own. Since then, Her Universe has gone from just a store on the con floor to a very well known brand and today’s outfit post features one of their incredible dresses!
There’s nothing like a cute floral skirt to brighten up a gloomy day. The past couple days has been super foggy, cold, and well, a lot like fall weather I guess. Even though there has been an extreme lack of sun, wearing this fun floral printed skirt took my mind off of that. I especially like this one because it has a layer underneath that adds a little “poof” – a petticoat if you will. Plus the florals on black gives it a little bit of edge so that you can throw on your favorite pair of black boots.
It’s always kind of exciting when a new clothing store pops up near me, especially one that I’ve never heard of before. Even though Brandy Melville is new to me, their clothes reminded me of ones I had moved on from long ago. Walking in the store for the first time brought me back in time – it was like ’90s grunge met a street style teeny bopper. Shopping through their store suddenly gave me visions of that floral print skirt I had when I was a kid that I crumpled up and threw in my laundry pile and then one day decided to wear it to school. Maybe not the best visual, but their stuff is definitely has that casual, but flirty look that every girl could use.
